Passenger Plates
1999 - 2005
ISSUED 1999JAA-10A - JMZ-99Z
In May 1999, New Jersey returned to AAA-12A numbering, which was discontinued in 1992. The new series started at JAA-10A.
(The 1992 blue base left off at HZZ-99Z, and the "I" series was skipped).

2004 STICKER

In March 2001, somewhere between the LGW and LHC series, the plates changed from using 3M reflective sheeting to AVERY reflective sheeting.
The visible differences are the brightness of the new plates and the spacing on the "New Jersey".

EXPIRE 2005PXA-10A - RUZ-99Z

In 2003, we found out that Avery sheeting stinks. It peels off the metal backing almost immediately.
So New Jersey switched back to 3M sheeting at this point.
The first "3M-2" plates started with the PXS prefix in 2004 (stickered Jan 2005).

The "Q" series
was not issued.

As of October 1, 2004, New Jersey
DISCONTINUED plate stickers. So, the last "natural 2005" plates have September 2005 stickers.
Stickers for the remaining months of 2005 were already issued, but only through the mail for registration renewals.
While 10/2005 stickers are common, 11/2005 and 12/2005 are somewhat rare.

ISSUED 2004RVA-10A - SBZ-99Z
ISSUED 2005SCA-10A - UGZ-99Z

In mid-2005, a group of plates was issued using old 3M-1 sheeting (with no holograms) from 2000. They probably found a roll of old sheeting and decided to use it.
So far, only plates in the early SKG series (C and F suffix) have been seen on the old sheeting.
