In late 2007, a new base appeared - without sticker boxes. The earliest plates seen on this base were in the VYX- series, but this was only a small group.

Somewhere between VZS- and VZT-, the boxes went away for good.
The cutoff is indeterminate - as plates in both the VZS and VZT series have been seen both with and without the boxes.

NJ map misplaced
In November 2009, The "3M Ensure Virtual Security Thread" started appearing on NJ passenger plates. Basically this is a double-helix pattern going down the center of the plate.
This started between ZGB and ZGE.
