Recent information on special classes and prefixes from Eric Tanner.
PRIVATE BOAT PLATES
Plates issued to private boats had numbering which started as 4 digits (all numeric), and then at or about 1955, prefix letters were used.
The prefix letters for passenger boats were A, B, E, F, H, and K.

1962 was the last year NJ issued boat plates.
Stickers were used for boat registration starting sometime after this - the earliest known sticker is 1973.
"C" PREFIX
We suspect that these plates were issued to boats that carried passengers. Sort of like a commercial boat or a boat-for-hire.
No three-digit numbers have been seen with the C prefix, meaning a small number (less than 90) were issued every year.
