This is a prototype of unknown origin.
The sheeting used for this plate has a hologram with US/BLH1, indicating manufacture in October 2005.
Also, there is a special security overlay on the letters - the word VALID is printed (upside-down and diagonal) on all of the letters.
New Jersey has never used sheeting with US instead of NJ in the hologram, and also never used any security text on the letters of any plate.

7-character dies

Some unpainted, un-bordered prototypes. Where are the rest of the numbers and letters ?

Fun in the tag shop. There are no dealer vanity plates in New Jersey. Maybe they gave these out as souvenirs ?

This is a really cool prototype from 1976 - seen on eBay.
The plate is completely flat, exaept for the border, but it uses the outlines of the embossed dies.

Test plate ? Prototype ?
Marked "alteration 12/3/69"

This is a group of prototype plates made around 1989-1990 as experimentation with a graphic series was being done.
