Cardboard temporary tags were used from 1956(?) until 1980.

Non-Resident temp tags were in a similar style but had green lettering.

Starting in 1981, dealers were allowed to place new regular-issue (metal) plates on new cars, and then file the registration papers later.

In May of 1983, this process was discontinued, and new paper temporary plates were used - these went in the back window.

Non-resident temps had small serial numbers in the upper right corner.

This style was discontinued around 1992 for both resident and non-resident temps.
