Starting in 1992 or 1993, and for the next 20 years, NJ used
long paper temps that hung in the back window.

This series started at number 1000000, and over the years, several different fonts were used for the numbers.

In 1997, around when the 500 series was due to start, some tags in the 250/270 series were issued.

In 1998 a silver hologram strip was introduced into the lower section where the date is written.

Non-resident temps in this series had no numbers, but there is a small serial number between the left and right sides.
The serial number is 7 digits (later 8 digits) followed by the letter K.

A new series was issued in 2008 starting at A000001 with some new characteristics:
(1) a barcode, (2) the serial number in a black box (top center), (3) the silver hologram stip removed, and (4) the left-hand panel now has color (bluish/pinkish/bluish).

Between A405083 and B055014, the validity for temp tags changed from 20 days to 30 days. Non-resident temps remained valid for 20 days.
